Frostbite race number 4 was held on Sunday 15th December at La Haule.

Competitors had to race from the beach, in to the harbour, around a marker and back out. They then had to head to Belcroute in to a F5 head wind then out to sea around the yellow cone. This part of the course meant that racers had to head out and across with wind and swell pushing them away from the marker. Once around the marker it was a 1.5 mile down wind back to the beach and the finish line.

Gary Smith took his 1st 12’6 win of the series with a strong lead ahead of John (The legend) Harvey.

Fostbite race number 5 was held on Sunday 23rd December at St Brelades Bay.

This was the first race this series with light winds which was a welcomed change to the previous F4-5 winds the past races were held in. There was also a 2ft swell coming in to the bay which made for some fun rides in between laps. The course involved multiple turns and beach sprints.

See below for results and leader board.

Race no 2 of the Frostbite series was held on Sunday 11th November at St Brelades Bay. For once in what felt like a long time we had light winds, a small swell and some sunshine for the race which all added up to great afternoon of racing.

The course was a sort of T shape that gave the competitors the chance for a slight down wind leg across the bay and good distance was marker 3 to the beach to allow for the chance of a few bumps and a wave closer to the beach. Once at the beach each racer had to run with their board around the beach flag, then back to the water for the next lap. There were 4 laps in total.

After the crazy winds on Saturday it was a pleasant surprise to wake up Sunday morning to find blue sky’s and light winds for the first race of the Frostbite series.

The race started at St Catheriens Slip to Gorey and back over 4 mile. As normal Andre powered off in to a strong lead and paddled straight past the turning point at Gorey before hearing the shouts and turning back. Alan Fernandes had a great race push John Harvey for the 12’6 first place spot all the way to the end.

Frostbite race series 2012/2013

The start on the Frostbite series 2012/2013 is also the start of our 2nd year of competitive racing on the island and it’s been great to watch it grow over the last 12 months.

With growth comes change and the need to keep things interesting. With the last Frostbite and Summer Series most races were held in the west of the island and I think it would be nice to mix it up a little and start see a bit more of the Jersey coast line. So with that in mind the first race will be held in the East at St Catherine’s slip.

Proposed Frostbite race dates and times

Race 5 – Sunday 23rd December – 1:30pm

Please remember that these dates and ideas may change once the club is official and we have an elected committee. Until then i will keep things moving

I would like to make an apology to Aaron Rowe, Aaron came 3rd in the 14ft division but for some reason I missed him out of the listings. Aaron is an amazing paddler and i forget he’s only 15 competing against men twice his age (sorry guys) and for that i’m deeply sorry for taking away a podia place from him as he deserves recognition for his skill and had work. We just need more of Aaron s generation to take up SUP so the sport continues to grow in Jersey and the UK.

On the 30th March a few boys from the Jersey SUP Club (John Harvey, Tim Rowe, Richie Langford, Aaron Rowe and Ben Langford) headed to the UK for the 2012 Frostbite Regional Final at Bray Lake just outside Reading which was being held on Saturday 31st March.

34 racers turned up for the event which was split in to Unlimited, 14ft, 12’6, Fun board, Ladies and Juniors.

There were 3 races set for the day. Each race would be a 1 mile lap of the lake which involved 2 major turns and narrow gates to paddle through. Each race you get points for where you place which get added together at the end to get you final ranking.

The start of each race was done in the water with paddlers lining up as best they could between 2 markers. On the horn it was a mad scramble to get in front otherwise you got caught up in all the wash and wake from the other boards.

Everyone from Team Jersey paddled really well with John Harvey taking 3rd in the 12’6 race class and Aaron Rowe taking a 1st in the Juniors and a 3rd in the 14ft class.

Tim Rowe placed 6th in the 12’6 class
Ben Langford placed 9th in the 12’6 class
Richie Langford placed 12 in the 12’6 class

Stand out paddlers from the UK were
Ryan James who smashed the 14ft class
Mark Slater who was on Ryan’s heels
Paul Simmons was a man on a mission in the 12’6 class, super focused
Peter Holiday gave Paul a real run for his money for 1st place.

A big thank you to John Hibbard from Starbaord UK for arranging the event.

Video of the day to follow soon.

10 racers turned out for the last race of the Frostbite series. Great surf and a few people of island meant we were 5 regulars down. The course was a new M shaped layout that involved multiple turns, strong cross winds and a bit more distance than the normal races.
John Harvey and Andre LeGeyt led the pack from the beginning soon gaining a good lead. The whole race John led just ahead of Andre until the final stretch when Andre made a break for it pushing John to step up a gear to catch up. The race finished with a beach sprint finish with both racers crossing the line in joint 1st overall. With Andre taking the 14ft and John the 12’6ft.
In 3rd place overall was Gary Smith who did amazingly well for his FIRST race and I’m sure with more practice will be a force to be reckoned with.
The stand out paddler of the day was veteran paddler Tim Rowe who fell off 3 times along the 2 lap course and each time he pulled him self back to the front of the main pack to finish 4th just behind Gary.

Due to a few regular racers not being able to make the last event the prize giving for the series will be postponed till the first Summer Sizzler race on the 14/15 April.

Hi Race fans,
Here’s some information on the next and last race of the Frostbite series.
Hopefully by now most of you will have seen the race course for the main race and hopefully you all understand it. The main race will kick off at 9:30am to allow more time to do the next races.

After the main race we will have the Ladies Race. The will be 2 laps of a course that will be decide on the day depending the conditions.

After the ladies race there will be the Relay Race.
The relay race will be made up of two man teams. The teams will be seeded against the results from the main race that day. So first will go with last, 2nd with second from last and so on. Each team will select one board to use which has to be a 12’6 race board. There are plenty of these so there should be enough. Each person will do one lap of a course to be decide on the day. If the ladies are keen to be a part of this then they are more than welcome to join in. More the merrier.

Prize giving
We have 3 people that can’t make the race – Ben & Richie Langford and Aaron Rowe. It would be a shame to do the prize giving with out them. So I’m proposing to do the prize giving at the 1st race of the Summer Sizzler of 15th April.
There will be prizes for the following –
14ft – places 1st, 2nd,3rd and 4th,
12’6ft – places 1st, 2nd,3rd and 4th,
Ladies – 1st Place
Relay – places 1st, 2nd,3rd
