Frost Bite race results for 4 & 5

Posted: 24th December 2012 by jerseypaddleclub in Club News, Frostbite race news

Frostbite race number 4 was held on Sunday 15th December at La Haule.

Competitors had to race from the beach, in to the harbour, around a marker and back out. They then had to head to Belcroute in to a F5 head wind then out to sea around the yellow cone. This part of the course meant that racers had to head out and across with wind and swell pushing them away from the marker. Once around the  marker it was a 1.5 mile down wind back to the beach and the finish line.

Gary Smith took his 1st 12’6 win of the series with a strong lead ahead of John (The legend) Harvey.

Fostbite race number 5 was held on Sunday 23rd December at St Brelades Bay.

This was the first race this series with light winds which was a welcomed change to the previous F4-5 winds the past races were held in. There was also a 2ft swell coming in to the bay which made for some fun rides in between laps. The course involved multiple turns and beach sprints.

See below for results and leader board.

Jersey Paddle Club Frostbite race # 3

Posted: 26th November 2012 by jerseypaddleclub in Club News, Frostbite race news

Frostbite race #3 was held on Sunday 25th November at Belcroute in some very testing conditions with strong SW winds blowing in to St Aubins Bay. The wind created some good bumps for the downwind section of the course before the log up wind section of the race.

The race was attended by 9 competitors who braved the strong winds.

Frostbite series race no 2 – St Brelades BOP

Posted: 13th November 2012 by jerseypaddleclub in Club News, Frostbite race news

Race no 2 of the Frostbite series was held on Sunday 11th November at St Brelades Bay. For once in what felt like a long time we had light winds, a small swell and some sunshine for the race which all added up to great afternoon of racing.

The course was a sort of T shape that gave the competitors the chance for a slight down wind leg across the bay and good distance was marker 3 to the beach to allow for the chance of a few bumps and a wave closer to the beach. Once at the beach each racer had to run with their board around the beach flag, then back to the water for the next lap. There were 4 laps in total.

Frostbite series race no1

Posted: 29th October 2012 by jerseypaddleclub in Club News, Frostbite race news

After the crazy winds on Saturday it was a pleasant surprise to wake up Sunday morning to find blue sky’s and light winds for the first race of the Frostbite series.

The race started at St Catheriens Slip to Gorey and back over 4 mile. As normal Andre powered off in to a strong lead and paddled straight past the turning point at Gorey before hearing the shouts and turning back. Alan Fernandes had a great race push John Harvey for the 12’6 first place spot all the way to the end.

Frostbite and Winter Sprint Race series 2012/2013

Posted: 25th October 2012 by jerseypaddleclub in Frostbite race news

Frostbite race series 2012/2013

The start on the Frostbite series 2012/2013 is also the start of our 2nd year of competitive racing on the island and it’s been great to watch it grow over the last 12 months.

With growth comes change and the need to keep things interesting. With the last Frostbite and Summer Series most races were held in the west of the island and I think it would be nice to mix it up a little and start see a bit more of the Jersey coast line. So with that in mind the first race will be held in the East at St Catherine’s slip.

Proposed Frostbite race dates and times

Race 1 – Sunday 28th October – Completed
Race 2 – Sunday 11th November – 3pm
Race 3 – Sunday 25th November – 1pm – Then after we will go to the Mirmar hotel for the AGM which starts at 3pm
Race 4 – Sunday 16th December – 9pm
Race 5 – Sunday 23rd December – 1:30pm

Please remember that these dates and ideas may change once the club is official and we have an elected committee. Until then i will keep things moving

After a great summer of racing and a brilliant end of series party I thought it might be a good idea to post the final results for the series. I’ve meaning to do this for weeks and with the start of the Frostbite series this Sunday and the Winter Sprint series next week I thought it best to get this post out now to wrap it all up.

Summer Sizzler race no 9

Posted: 17th September 2012 by jerseypaddleclub in Club News, Summer Sizzler Race and Surf news

We’re almost at the end of our first Summer Sizzler race series and there a few battles going on in the ranking after race 9 and as there is only one race left to go it could make race no 10 very interesting.

Here are the results and current leader board. Remember the final is this Saturday (22nd September) at St Brelades with a party after at Portlet from 7pm.

Paddle Party 2012 – St Malo/Dinard

Posted: 17th August 2012 by jerseypaddleclub in Club News, Summer Sizzler Race and Surf news

Last weekend 10 of the Jersey SUP Club paddlers headed to St Malo to compete against some of Frances top Stand Up Paddlers in the Paddle Party 2012. The event was held over Saturday and Sunday and the weather was amazing.

On the Saturday the 1st race was a 5km around the back of the walled town. The setting was stunning and there was a huge crowd along the beach and the ramparts cheering all the racers on.

The second race of the day was a 10km race in the St Malo marina. The race was started in the water by the Pirate ship and the course took the racers around the whole harbour which meant they had to crouch and paddle under a bridge to get from one part to the next. For this race there were spectators all among the bridge and banks shouting support and there were even a few familiar Jersey faces in the crowd.

Sundays race was held in Dinard. The first race was 5km from Dinard to Saint Lunaire, once there we had a relaxing 3 hours enjoying a BBQ before the 2nd race of the day, another 5km back to Dinard.

Jason Stolte summed up the weekend very well with these words

“Quite an experience racing with so many people over 4 races and 25k. The individual battles, the camaraderie, the sheer physical effort. Each one of us cheered on our colleagues over the finish united in the challenge and the battle of racing across the sea with a paddle and a board, respectful of each other’s efforts and all brothers at the end.”

“One of my best weekend’s ever for the experience. It wouldn’t have mattered where I came but actually leading the last race if only for 50 yards and coming 4th overall was the icing on the cake.”

The Jersey crew would like to thank the organisers of both days for putting on a spectacular event. We couldn’t have been made to feel more welcome and look forward to coming back for the next one.

The class results were worked out based on your total scores over the four races.
Men’s 14ft class – results out of 10

2 – André LE GEYT

Summer Sizzler race #8 was held at Belcroute on Sunday 28th July 2012 under blue sky’s and in flat sea’s. Belcroute is a stunning bay with St Aubins fort in the back ground and small boats anchored in the natural harbour.

For me this was the best race of the series so far as we had 5 ladies turn up for the first proper ladies race of the series which Elsa stormed, and after the men’s race we held a Prone sprint race  which most of us had a go at and was really fun. Hopefully more of that to come in the future!! Thanks to Stuart from Gone Paddling for bring the prone boards.

Here are the results and leader board from the day plus some pictures courtesy of Tim Rowe and Elsa Fernandes.
