Update for Race 10 Sunday 11th March

Posted: 7th March 2012 by jerseypaddleclub in Frostbite race news

OK race fans I want to put every ones mind at rest with this Sunday’s race and the race plan I sent out yesterday.
I’m don’t expect people to race in conditions that aren’t safe and that could cause injury and damage to boards. I’m trying to build this race series and a death would only cause problems :)
Can I ask that everyone please come down to la Braye on Sunday at 9:00am or 9:30 at the latest and we will as a group assess the conditions. If it’s to gnarly we will move the race to another venue probably Brelades and set out a course there.
I have to have a basic plan for each race so I know what I need in the way of help to set it up as in Markers, air tank to blow them up and the jet ski to set the course. Sorry again for any worry I’ve caused.
See you all Sunday.

    hey John,
don’t you think it would be best to just run the event from Brelades? if there’s surf, I think that a load of SUP users will only aggravate an already ‘anti-SUP’ attitude from some others at the beach. Only my opinion, but i am not keen to race in St Ouen if there are waves
    cheers :-)

    • Hi Ali,

Thanks for your suggestion. I want to keep it the way it is with everyone meeting at La Braye Sunday morning and looking at the conditions together. If it’s nuts then we will move it to Brelades as it will only take us 10 min to get there and another 10 min to get ready to race, but I want to at least give people the option as a lot of us have been racing around the Pole for awhile now and would like a change and to step up the racing challenge. Racing is more than flat water and I wanted to give people the chance to try racing with surf as part of the course. But safety is the main priority. With regards to the surfers we won’t be going any where near them with the way i have the course planned. The map is not a true reflection and maybe a little miss leading. I’m not planning on putting the marker out behind the main peak it will be just off from the tower. All will become clear on Sunday. Please come down as if we do hold it down there I have a separate course planned for the ladies that will not involve any surf. At the end of the day it will come down to a vote on the day. I understand everyone as an opinion which i will alway listen to but i can’t please everyone. There have been races which i’ve held at Brelades and people have said that i should have had it at La Braye now I’m holding it at La Braye i’m getting the reverse. Ah the fun of organising events.
